Mike Russell Designs was founded in 1987 by pioneering wildlife garden designer Mike Russell.

Growing up in the wild borders between Shropshire and Wales with green-fingered parents, Mike has always been influenced by a more natural approach to gardening.

From an early age, he helped his mother pot up plants at her Alpine nursery - even managing his own little garden patch - and took great inspiration from his father’s pioneering environmental and conservation work for the Field Studies Council.

After studying Art & Design Studied at Oxford Brookes University, Mike trained in Conservation Management and worked as a Countryside Ranger for the National Trust Wales, before moving onto a community-focussed role as a Garden Watch Officer for Shropshire Wildlife Trust.

This led him to study Garden Design at Pershore College, after which he started his own garden design business; first in Oxfordshire, then in Shropshire. Since 1994, Mike has won multiple awards for a number of show gardens, including the highly coveted Gold Award from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Today, Mike takes on a range of rural and urban garden design projects for private and corporate clients, working both locally in Shropshire and across the UK and Europe.

Through the work he does, Mike aims to make the world a more beautiful place, one garden at a time
